Welcome to Helsinki

I am here in Finland for a couple three weeks this January, making arrangements and preparing for our Summer 2023 Faculty Led Immersion.  While here, I thought I would provide some images and information regarding what we will be doing. This is for students already committed to participating in the immersion as well as for those still thinking about it.

It is dark and rather gloomy here in Helsinki these days, a side of the city that does not appear in the tourist brochures.  But these days also make the spring and summer time exciting and revitalizing -- just as in Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Keep this in mind: Helsinki is at about the same latitude as Anchorage, AK.  That means, right now, there are less than seven hours of daylight each day (from about 9:00 to 16:00*).   It also means that, in June, there will be over 18 hours of sunlight per day, from about 4:00 to 22:30*).  That's a lot of time for activities.

*Finland typically uses the 24 hour time notation to avoid confusions and having to rely on am/pm designations.
